Concussion Assessment & Treatment

Wether you have experienced a recent head, or neck injury, or have lingering symptoms from an old injury, I can help!

If you were diagnosed with a concussion and given the advice to ‘take it easy for a few days and it should pass’ - this is outdated advice. We now know that early intervention is key for optimal recovery. We also know that while early intervention is important, there is no deadline for recovery. So if you are a few years out from your injury and still experiencing symptoms that affect your daily life, I’d love to help.

It’s important to address a few myths about concussion:

  • You do not have to hit your head to have a concussion

  • You do not have to lose consciousness to have a concussion

  • You do not need to sit in a dark room until symptoms resolve

  • You do not need to exhibit symptoms immediately

There are seven different sub-types of concussion:

  • Oculomotor (ex. blurred vision, difficulty tracking objects)

  • Cognitive (ex. difficulty with memory)

  • Affective & Mood (ex. low mood or mood swings)

  • Headache (speaks for itself)

  • Cardiovascular & Autonomic (ex. elevated heart rate, changes in blood pressure etc.)

  • Vestibular (ex. dizziness, vertigo, loss of balance)

  • Cervical (ex. neck pain or stiffness)
